Quotes

Jose Figueira (Auckland City coach): “It’s early in the season to be making predictions of final positions but one thing is clear to see in both rounds so far – there’s been some really close games and big results. I think that’s down to the amount of changes in squad personnel and coaches. A lot of teams are trying to get their systems in place and established and I think it bodes well for the competition as a whole – every game is a big game. We’re going into this weekend knowing we have to be right at the top of our game. We want to build on our opening day win and our strong finish last week to secure a point.”

Quotes

Tony Readings (Eastern Suburbs coach): “We’ve had a reaction from the loss last week and that’s what you want. It’s a learning opportunity but it’s only effective if you make a change from it. We’ve watched Southern and I’m sure they’ve watched us as well. They’re very organised and we know they’re going to be hard to break down but they do have some very dangerous players up front and out wide, so we have to be really diligent in our defending to stop them scoring as well.”

Quotes

Justin Gulley (Team Wellington defender): “There was a little bit of disappointment after the Auckland City game, we felt we played quite well and that we were a bit more on top in the first half but the second half was quite different. It was good to get a draw but we went up there for a win. We played the Phoenix twice in pre-season and both of those games were pretty difficult. You can’t take them for granted because they can really put on a tough performance and I think they’re maturing a lot.”
