New Zealand Football is pleased to announce two new additions to the Player Welfare Team.
Jenny Storey and James Farr have started as Player Welfare Officers for Auckland Football and Capital Football respectively.
The Player Welfare Team, which was launched in 2016 by New Zealand Football (as an Injury Prevention Specialist Team), has grown and evolved over time and consists of a NZF Player Welfare Officer based in each Federation with Megan Crockett as the National Player Welfare Manager.
The Player Welfare Team is focuses on developing and delivering the Fit4Football programme to our football communities, enhancing player development, performance and enjoyment, at each level - grassroots beginners to elite to social players, coaches, referees and parents, within the community game.
The team is geared to educate and activate the New Zealand Football community and provide guidance and understanding towards the welfare and wellbeing of players in areas such physical conditioning, nutrition, the female athlete, injury prevention, rehabilitation and return to play, athlete environment and more.
Crockett said that Storey and Farr are great additions to their team. Storey, who will be based out of the Auckland Football office, has a good knowledge base of elite and grassroots sport in New Zealand. She is a qualified physiotherapist, and a former Black Sticks hockey representative.
Farr, who will work out of the Capital Football office in Petone, has similar high-level experience. His expertise is in the area of strength and conditioning and has recently worked for the Hurricanes rugby franchise.
“Jenny is an energetic and high-skilled addition to our team,” said Crockett. “James has also worked across several sports codes from tennis to cricket in the UK, but has fallen in love with New Zealand so starting to make it home. Both will be a great additions to our team as we look to build on the success of the Player Welfare Programme from the last three years.”
The Fit4football programme is a Player Welfare and prevention programme for the masses. It is a community-based football specific programme for players, coaches, clubs, parents, officials, schools and anyone involved in football from junior to social elite to anywhere in between.
Fit4Football remains the overarching programme for player welfare and prevention in football in NZ and is built upon ACC SportSmart’s nine key principles; player profiling, physical conditioning, injuries, target population groups, skill and technique, psychology, athlete environment, nutrition and player wear and gear.
