When? Sunday 15 November, 12 pm kick off
Where? Logan Park, Dunedin
What happened last time the two sides met?
Many goals. The teams’ paths first crossed in round three of the 2019 season, in a game which ended 5-5 (Southern United goalscorers: Shontelle Smith x1, Amy Hislop x2, Mikaela Gray x1, Kirsty Hayr x1; Northern Lights goalscorers: Helena Kelderman x1, Lily Jervis x1, Kelli Brown x2, Chloe Knott x1). Their second encounter was comparatively muted, with a Maggie Jenkins double wrapping up the three points for Northern Lights in a 2-0 win.
What they say
Ben Bate, Northern Lights head coach:
“I think in some ways it's a little bit frustrating to have a two week break after your first game, but I think we've used the time really, really well to sort of, uh, get to the, get down to how we ended up drawing the first game against Capital. We’ve worked a lot on our finishing, especially in the final third, but also tightening up on our defensive roles and responsibilities to ensure that we can keep that clean sheet game in game out.
“I think based on the games that I've watched, Southern have still created a lot of chances. They were probably a little bit unfortunate against Capital, they could have taken the lead in the first 20 minutes or so. They've shown in the last few years that they can still get results, they’ve been very competitive in the last few years. They’ve a slightly different team from last year, which changes the dynamic slightly, but we're going to take it just as seriously as any other game and hopefully get the right result in the weekend.”
