What happened last time the two sides met?
Thanks to COVID-19 Hamilton Wanderers and Hawke’s Bay United met just once in the 2019/20 season, three days before Christmas. Not that this was a game imbued with the festive spirit, marked as it was by eight yellow cards. Domestic player of the year nominee Derek Tieku opened the scoring in the 75' minute for the Hamiltonians, Ahinga Selemani equalised in the 87' for United, only for Wanderers skipper Jacob Butler to net the winner in the 90'.
