Defender Nando Pijnaker has signed with Portuguese side Rio Ave from Grasshopper Club Zurich. 

The 21-year-old, who made his full All Whites debut last year, joins the team that finished 5th in Portugal’s Liga Nos last year behind giants Porto, Benfica, Braga and Sporting. 

The Portuguese league is seen as being one of the best in Europe outside of the big five of England, France, Germany, Spain and Italy.
