This weekend Winston Reid made his long-awaited return to club football for new side Sporting Kansas City. In his first game since November’s All Whites match against Ireland, Reid played the full 90 minutes, lining up against international team-mate Michael Boxall and his Minnesota United side.
Sporting KC coach Peter Vermes was very pleased with the defender’s contribution.
“[He was] fantastic from beginning to end… Towards the end of the game, he probably got a little bit tired but he managed the game really well. He was excellent. His 1v1 defending, his reading of the game and the situations, he cut balls out, great leadership in the back from a communication point of view. He was tremendous.”
Reid will be hoping to retain his spot at the back for Sporting KC’s next match against Houston Dynamo on 26 August.
