All Whites midfielder Sarpreet Singh has become just the second Kiwi to get his hands on the famous Bundesliga trophy after Bayern Munich ended their triumphant league season with a 4-0 win over Wolfsburg on Sunday.
Singh has featured regularly in the match day squad in recent weeks and was again involved but had to watch from the substitutes’ bench as goals from Kingsley Coman, Mickael Cuisance, Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller secured a comfortable win for the German giants.
Bayern earned a record eighth consecutive title last week but had to wait to lift the trophy, although they were forced to do so in an empty stadium with covid-19 precautions ongoing.
The players therefore took mainly to social media to celebrate with Singh tweeting: “Blessed to be part of this team. Champions!”
The 21-year-old made his first start for Bayern a week ago, playing for over an hour in a 3-1 win over SC Freiburg.
He made one other Bundesliga appearance this season as a substitute and is following in the footsteps of All Whites legend Wynton Rufer, who won the German top-flight as Werden Bremen’s top scorer in the 1992/93 season.
Singh could also add another medal to his collection in the German Cup final, in which Bayern will take on Bayer Leverkusen on 4 July as they look to claim a double.
On the international stage, the Aucklander has made six appearances for the All Whites and scored one goal.
