Former All White and the 15th most-capped player in the history of the Hyundai A-League, Glen Moss, has announced his retirement effective immediately.

The shot-stopper was set to hang up his boots at the end of the season but, in light of the current circumstances, the decision has been brought forward.

Moss played in his 250th A-League match against Melbourne City in the Newcastle Jets’ most recent outing on 23 March, coming off the bench to replace fellow former Wellington Phoenix goalkeeper Lewis Italiano in the 86th minute.

“It’s a decision that’s best for my family, we’ve already settled back in Sydney and we want to be together,” Moss said.

"I’ve had plenty of time to reflect on a career that I’m extremely proud of, and I’m happy to finish on my terms.

“Hopefully the boys can kick on and crack the top six. I’ll be at home cheering them on from the couch!”

Jets CEO Lawrie McKinna paid tribute to the goalkeeper.

“Mossy has been a fantastic servant of the club for the past three seasons and an icon of the league since the early days,” McKinna said.

“While it’s disappointing that circumstances mean we have to say goodbye earlier than we’d have liked, he departs with our blessing.

“On behalf of everyone at the club, I’d like to congratulate Mossy on his wonderful career and wish him the very best in the next chapter of his life.”

Moss retired from international duty two years ago after making 29 appearances for the All Whites and stated at the start of this A-League season that it would be his final campaign.

Prior to arriving at the Jets, the 37-year-old had two spells at the Wellington Phoenix and also played for Melbourne Victory and Gold Coast United.

Born in New Zealand but raised in Australia, he wore the silver fern at both U-20 and U-23 level before graduating to the senior All Whites, making his debut against Malaysia in 2006 and notching eight clean sheets.

His last involvement in an All Whites squad was for the FIFA World Cup Intercontinental Playoff match against Peru in November of 2017.
