Capital beat Pride in thriller

Capital coach Emma Evans guided her side to a win over Canterbury United (Photosport)

The Canterbury United Pride have left the door open for Auckland in the National Women’s League after they went down 4-3 to Capital Football at Petone Memorial Park.

The Pride, who have been the frontrunners of the competition all season and have been severely depleted with a number of players in both the NZ U-17s and the Football Ferns, looked like they had done enough to secure all three points when Cody Taylor scored her second in the 73rd minute.

But Emma Evans’ team never gave up and they scored twice in the final 10 minutes through Meisha Boone and Danielle Ohlsson to record a memorable win.

That result means there is everything to play for in the final round for three teams. The Northern Lights can secure a home final if they defeat WaiBOP away.

If the defending champions Auckland beat WaiBOP tomorrow at McLennan Park they will draw level with Canterbury United and their final match against the Pride in Christchurch will decide who makes the final.

There are three more games in the ISPS Handa Premiership and two more fixtures in the National Women’s League tomorrow.

National Women’s League Match Week 12 Result:
Capital Football 4 (Kennedy Bryant 9’, Emma Main 25’, Meisha Boone, 81’, Danielle Ohlsson 90’)
Canterbury United Pride 3 (Whitney Hepburn 17’, Cody Taylor 36’, 73’)
HT: 2-2
