Coaching opportunity with Refugees as Survivors

There is a unique opportunity for a couple of women to share their love of football with a group of young refugee girls by conducting some fun football sessions, once weekly for the next few months leading up to a tournament they have entered. This opportunity is provided by Refugees as Survivors (RASNZ) and they will provide appropriate cultural insights, advice and support for prospective coaches.

"This is a fantastic opportunity to positively influence and empower these young ladies and provide a meaningful short-term football experience for them," says Holly Nixon, the New Zealand Football Women’s Development Manager. "For the football coach or coaches, it will provide a tangible way to give meaningfully back to the community and perhaps ignite their interest in coaching."

What: Using the New Zealand Football Junior Curriculum (which will be provided), coaches will facilitate a once weekly fun football session for these young girls as they prepare for their tournament. The players are aged 12 to 19 and most have never played before. The sessions should be based around inclusion and fun for all!

Who: You do not need to be a qualified coach but, if you are, terrific! We are looking for an enthusiastic woman or two women (of any age) who want to give back to the game and to the young refugee community in Auckland. Equipment is provided.

Where and When: Up to coaches but traditionally they have been on Mondays from 6-8pm at Mt Roskill Youth Hub (Wesley Community Centre).

How do I sign up: If this sounds like something you or you and a friend are interested in then please contact Sarah on sarah.m@rasnz.co.nz
