Western Springs crowned Dettol Northern League champions!

Western Springs have been crowned Dettol Northern League champions for the very first time, wrapping up an unforgettable season in the most dramatic way.

Heading into the final day one point clear of Birkenhead United, Springs knew a win over Auckland United would seal the title. When Daniel Normann struck just before half-time, the home crowd at Seddon Fields could sense history in the making.

Nevertheless, Jose Figueira's team had other ideas. Emiliano Tade levelled from the penalty spot before Otto Ingham turned the game on its head with 12 minutes to go, securing a 2–1 win that booked United’s place in the National League Championship. That left Springs waiting anxiously on other results and relief finally arrived when word filtered through that Eastern Suburbs had beaten Birkenhead United 2–0. Despite defeat, Springs finished top on 42 points, one ahead of Birkenhead United, to claim their first ever Dettol Northern League title.

The drama didn’t end there. Auckland United, Auckland City FC and Eastern Suburbs all finished on 40 points, with goal difference deciding the final Championship spots. United claimed third, the Navy Blues fourth, while the Lilywhites were the unlucky side to miss out.

It was a tense but thrilling finish to a remarkable season and you can relive all the action now on FIFA+.
