Following the 1-0 win over African Champions Côte d'Ivoire, one of the most significant results for the team in the last 15 years, the All Whites go into this game knowing a win over Ukraine in their second match at the Canadian Shield could see them in contention to win the inaugural competition.
But if anything the challenge they will face from the 25th best side in the world will be more difficult than that of the Ivory Coast with the Ukrainians keen to make up for an opening match defeat against hosts Canada.
One thing that can be certain is the team in yellow and blue will have the backing of the crowd, with a strong Ukrainian community in Toronto keen to get out and support their side.
Likely Line-Up:
Speaking ahead of the tournament, head coach Darren Bazeley made clear he would be looking to use the full squad for these games as they come at the end of a long season for a lot of the players, so expect the full allocation of six subs to be made in the game.
With Chris Wood also having his playing load managed after the biggest season of his career, there will be opportunities for Kosta Barbarouses and Ben Waine to lead the line, either from the start or off the bench.
One player who will not take part is Callum McCowatt after suffering an injury in the first game which ruled him out of the second.
What midfielder Joe Bell Said:
"Yeah, we were really happy [with the win against Côte d'Ivoire]. We think we took some steps forward from players' group that we were really happy with. But we all recognise that for us it's preparation for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and we're going to have to put two good performances back to back if we want to achieve our goal, which is to get out of the group, so it's going to be another really good opportunity for us against Ukraine."
Player to Watch: Oleksandr Zinchenko
The Arsenal defender/midfielder is one of the most experienced players in the Ukrainian squad with over 70 caps for his country.
A more creative player at international level, the 28-year-old scored in the loss to Canada but is very used to winning at club level having been part of four Premier League title winning campaigns with former club Manchester City.
