Tonight the Ford Football Ferns take on world number 14 Iceland in the first of their two games during the April international wndow – their last games overseas before the FIFA Women’s World Cup in July.
The last time the team played Iceland was at last year’s SheBelieves Cup, going down 1-0 to an early Dagný Brynjarsdóttir goal, despite battling all game to find an equaliser. Tonight’s game is a great opportunity to see how the squad has progressed since then.
So far this year Iceland is unbeaten, having come away from the Pinatar Cup in February wihta 0-0 draw with Wales, 2-0 win against Scotland, and a 5-0 win against Ferns World Cup opponents the Philippines.
Reflecting on camp so far, head coach Klimková notes that the team is progressing well towards gameday.
“We are really getting more and more every day ready for our game against Iceland, that we are aware as very similar to our first opposition that we are going to face at the World Cup in July – Norway has a very similar style of play, so it's been good so far.”
