National League System Proposal feedback received

New Zealand Football wishes to thank all of its stakeholders who have provided feedback on the National League System Proposal and will now take time to consider everything suggested before publishing any outcomes.

The proposal to change the National League structure was as a result of the Delivery and Sustainability Project commissioned by New Zealand Football to identify and address challenges long faced by the game. In the competitions space the main challenges identified to address were:

  • The competitions and participating entities must be financially viable and sustainable
  • The competitions and participating entities must embrace youth development through an aligned system
  • The competitions must be an open competition to create an aspirational pathway
  • The highest level of competitions must provide players with circa 30 matches per season in one training and playing environment

Following the 20th November deadline for feedback from stakeholders, the next step will be for proposals to be taken to the NZF board on 25th November. After this point New Zealand Football will be publishing any outcome of the proposal on 1st December.
