Chance joins Bristol City

Olivia Chance joins Bristol City after starring at the FIFA Women's World Cup

Football Ferns midfielder Olivia Chance has signed with Bristol City ahead of the new Barclay's FA Women's Super League campaign.

The playmaker was a mainstay in the Football Ferns midfield at the FIFA Women's World Cup, starting all three group games in France despite missing the majority of the season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Chance also brings Super League experience having spent three seasons at Everton and the 25-year-old spoke of her delight at joining City.

“I’ve heard a lot of positive things from both players and coaches from around the world, so I’m looking forward to getting started," she said.

“The club and team environment seems really positive, and Tanya [Oxtoby] seems to have brought a new level to Bristol City. She seems like a very good coach and I look forward to getting started under her.”

Chance believes there is no better way to kick off the new season than at Ashton Gate and hopes this season can be a catalyst for pushing women’s football forward.

“It’s the perfect way to start the season, in a stadium such as Ashton Gate. Hopefully we can get a big crowd, put on a good performance for them and get a win.

“Having the World Cup so recently is going to bring people to the game and, with the home Euros in 2021, it’s all positive for women’s football and hopefully we can build on it.”

Bristol City will open their campaign against Brighton and Hove Albion at Ashton Gate Stadium this Saturday.
