New Zealand Football (NZF) has taken the decision to cancel the match between Tasman United and the Canterbury United Dragons in the ISPS Handa Premiership tomorrow following the act of terrorism which occurred on Friday afternoon in Christchurch.

Following extensive discussions with both teams today, it has been decided to not proceed with Match 89, which was scheduled to be played at Trafalgar Park with kick off at 2pm.

Daniel Farrow, the Competitions and Events Director of NZ Football, said it was a unanimous decision and it was the right move for the people of Christchurch.

“With support of both teams and stakeholders in Nelson, NZF has made the decision to cancel the match as a mark of respect for the events that have occurred in Christchurch,” he said.  “This will allow staff, players and fans to remain in their community and with their family and friends in Christchurch during this difficult time.”

The match shall be deemed a 0 - 0 draw with points shared in accordance with the ISPS Handa Premiership Regulations.

All of the other matches in the final round of the ISPS Handa Premiership will proceed as scheduled with both team’s observing a minutes’ silence before kick-off to honour the lives lost in the attack.
