Handful of Futsal Whites named in New Zealand’s 2026 FISU World University Championship squad
New Zealand’s squad for the Futsal 2026 FISU World University Championship in Poland has been announced, featuring five players with international experience.
The FISU World University Championship will take place in Warsaw, Poland from 1 July June to 7 July 2026.
The New Zealand men’s side will travel to Poland in partnership with University and Tertiary Sport New Zealand (UTSNZ).
Organised by University Sports Association of Warsaw, the 2026 FISU World University Championship will bring together student-athletes from up to 32 countries.
The Kiwi squad will feature Futsal White Casey Sharplin, who featured in the 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup.
Other previous New Zealand internationals are Cooper Wink, Ben Cameron, Liam Percy-Fysh and Mark Zimmerman.
New Zealand participated at the last championship in 2024, where the men’s team finished 9th overall and the women’s team finished 4th.
In 2022 the men finished 7th and the women’s finished 4th. To date, these are the highest finishes New Zealand have ever made for both teams.
For the 2026 FISU World University Championship, New Zealand women’s team was unable to be registered due to logistical and financial obstacles.
The Futsal 2026 FISU World University Championship Men’s competition will feature hosts Poland, Brazil, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Czechia, Finland, France, Georgia, Israel, Saudia Arabia, Lebanon, Lithuania, Portugal, Slovakia, USA and Aotearoa New Zealand.
The New Zealand’s fixtures will be confirmed at a later date.
The matches will be livestreamed by FISU on FISU.TV.
