The Round 1 draws for the 2025 Chatham Cup and Kate Sheppard Cup took place this week at New Zealand Football headquarters. Fixtures will be played over the weekend of 9-11 May, with dates and kick-off times to be confirmed.
The draw was conducted by Kevin Forde (Competitions and Events Manager), Shannon Hewetson (Competitions and Events Manager) and Jamie Mew (Competitions and Events Manager), with Taylor Lewis (Club Support Officer, NRF) overseeing.
Kate Sheppard Cup – Round 1 Overview
A total of 49 teams remain in the competition: 25 from the Northern Region, 13 from the Central Region and 11 from the Southern Region
To ensure 32 teams progress to Round 2, several sides received byes, determined by ranking or draw.
Northern Region: All NRFL Premiership teams received byes, along with Birkenhead United from the NRFL Championship (by draw).
Capital Football: Four byes were drawn — Wellington Phoenix Reserves, Victoria University, Waterside Karori, and Miramar Rangers.
Southern Football: Roslyn Wakari and Otago University received byes. No byes were given to Canterbury or Nelson-Marlborough teams.

Chatham Cup – Round 1 Overview
Ninety-four teams remain in contention for New Zealand’s oldest cup competition. As with the Kate Sheppard Cup, byes were awarded by ranking or draw to ensure 64 teams in Round 2.
Northern Region: All Dettol Northern League teams received byes, along with four NRFL Championship teams drawn: North Shore United, Northern Rovers, Ngaruawahia United, and Onehunga Mangere United.
Central Region: All Dettol Central League sides received byes.
Southern Region: Nomads United and Christchurch United received drawn byes. Dunedin City Royals and Wanaka from Southern Football also earned byes as Dettol Southern League teams and four additional byes were drawn from the same Federation: Queens Park AFC, Mosgiel, Northern AFC and Otago University.
