The third round kicked off last Friday night with a match in each competition. In the Chatham Cup, Manurewa AFC put up a strong performance to beat Auckland United 2-1 away in extra time. In the Kate Sheppard Cup, defending champions Western Springs convincingly defeated Hibiscus Coast 5-0 at Seddon Fields.

Saturday saw six more Kate Sheppard Cup matches, with two games in each region. Auckland United, one of the top contenders for the title, secured a 4-0 victory against Eastern Suburbs in Madills Farm, while West Coast Rangers, also enjoying a good season, won 3-0 away against Ellerslie AFC. In the Central region, Petone FC played at home but fell 4-0 to Wellington Phoenix Reserves. Meanwhile, Waterside Karori traveled to Palmerston North to secure a spot in the next round. It only took Palmerston North Marist 10 minutes to score the first goal of the match, but Nikki Furukawa scored twice in the second half to give the Wellington team a 2-1 win. In the Southern Region, Cashmere Technical thrashed Nelson Suburbs 7-0, and Dunedin City Royals won 3-0 in extra time against Otago University after a goalless 90 minutes. The final match of the Kate Sheppard Cup on Sunday saw Northern Rovers take on Franklin United, with the visitors winning decisively 4-1.

On the other hand, there were 16 matches this weekend in the Chatham Cup, with standout victories including Cambridge FC, from the NRFL Southern Conference, beating Bay Olympic 2-1; Stop Out SC winning on penalties in a classic match against Petone FC; Wellington Olympic's 5-0 thrashing of Western Suburbs; and Western Springs' dramatic 3-2 extra-time victory over Eastern Suburbs. Four teams that have reached the round of 16 are not currently playing in the National League: Cambridge FC, Hibiscus Coast, Onehunga Mangere United, and Otago University.

With all teams qualified for the fourth round of the Chatham Cup and the quarterfinals of the Kate Sheppard Cup, the draws to determine the next round matchups will take place on Tuesday, June 18 at 1:00 PM.
