The Men’s Olympic Team play Romania tonight in their final Tokyo 2020 group game, with a history making place in the Quarter Finals on the line. The top two from the group will qualify for the last eight meaning two of South Korea, Honduras, New Zealand and Romania will miss out.
Ahead of the game, all teams in the group are even on 4 points (with the Men’s Olympic side recording a win against group favourites South Korea and loss against Honduras) so we looked at the various permutations which will see The NZ Team through:
Win – if the team win, regardless of the result in the South Korea v Honduras game, they go through to the Quarter Finals.
Draw (plus a win for either South Korea or Honduras in the other game) – the team go through by virtue of having better goal difference than Romania.
Draw (plus a draw in the other game) – the team will only go through if they have a better goal difference than the other sides in the group. If it is even, it will come down to the results between the two sides concerned.
A loss would see the side’s Tokyo 2020 journey come to an end.
Watch the game tonight at 8:30pm (NZ time) on Sky Sport.
