REVIEW | Cup Preliminary Rounds – By the numbers


The Preliminary Rounds of both the Football Foundation Kate Sheppard Cup and Chatham Cup took place over Anzac weekend cutting the total teams in each competition from 57 to 50 and 126 to 104 respectively.

 

Football Foundation Kate Sheppard Cup

During the Preliminary Round of the Football Foundation Kate Sheppard Cup, a total of 25 goals were scored over the seven games.

Frankie Morrow of Universities AFC shot to the top of the Kate Sheppard Cup goalscoring table with a hat trick in her side’s 5-0 defeat of Halswell United AFC.

This was also the match with the greatest margin of victory, jointly held with Franklin United Football Club’s dispatch of Puhoi.

Chatham Cup

During the preliminary round of Chatham Cup, a total of 94 goals were scored over the 23 games.

A trio of trebles lead the Chatham Cup scoring charts, courtesy of Tristan Cooper, West End AFC, (Football South); Cailyn Trask, Ngongotaha AFC (WaiBOP); and Jamie Walker, Otorohanga AFC (WaiBOP).

The greatest margin of victory was claimed by Otorohonga AFC, brushing Whakatane Town Association Football Club aside 10-0.
