Waitakere claim youth lead

Waitakere United are the only team with a perfect record in the National Youth League (Photosport)

It’s a good time to be a Waitakere United fan with the club’s youth team joining their senior counterparts in topping the table.

The west Aucklanders are perched proudly on top of both the ISPS Handa Premiership and National Youth League and their lead is particularly pertinent in the latter as there are now only four match weeks remaining.

Waitakere have won all five of their matches so far and are now the only team to boast a perfect record after continuing their victorious run against Tasman United. They now hold a three-point lead over Hamilton Wanderers, who gave up their share of first place with an upset loss to Eastern Suburbs.

Auckland City meanwhile dropped off the pace in third after being beaten by Team Wellington.

Two other sides posted wins with Canterbury United enjoying a massive triumph over Southern United while Hawke’s Bay United edged out the Wellington Phoenix.
