Northern Football head coach Hayley Stirling has named her squad that is set to challenge for the National Women’s League, which kicks off on Sunday 15 October against Central Football.

Stirling is excited in the potential of the squad which has been assembled from the four NFF teams that compete in the Lotto NRFL Women’s Premier League (Glenfield Rovers, Forrest Hill Milford United, Norwest United and Northland).

“It’s an exciting squad we have managed to assemble this season,” she says.

“We have players with different experience levels with girls involved in the FFDP, some that have been through the National and Federation Talent Centres and others that play locally within our region.”

Stirling ran an identification process throughout the NRFL season, which allowed her to assess each player’s performance levels.

“We want to make sure we can build on what our clubs are doing in the winter season in terms of developing players within our region,” Stirling says.

After winning the title in 2015 but missing out on the play-offs last year, Northern will be aiming for the business end of the season again this time.

“We want to go straight to the final or at the very least competing in the semi-final. We are pretty confident we can get there,” Stirling says.

“The players have indicated they want to perform and we can ask nothing more than that.”
