New Zealand Football is pleased to announce the Chatham Cup and New Zealand Women’s Knockout Cup Finals will be shown live on SKY Sport this weekend.
Two-time defending champions Glenfield Rovers will face Forrest Hill Milford United in the NZ Women’s Knockout Cup Final at 12pm on Sunday September 11 at QBE Stadium in Albany and will be followed by Birkenhead United against Waitakere City in the Chatham Cup Final at 3:30pm.
New Zealand Football CEO Andy Martin said the National Cup Finals day was an important day on the football calendar and was delighted the games would be broadcast live on SKY Sport.
“The Chatham Cup and Women’s Knockout Cup have been incredibly popular again around New Zealand and we are excited about the Finals Day this weekend,” said Martin.
“It is important that we can showcase the finals of the pinnacle events of our domestic winter calendar. With four teams from the Northern Football Federation contesting the finals I am sure it will be an exciting day for the region and a great day for local football fans.”
Birkenhead United, who defeated Miramar Rangers 3-1 in their semi-final last week, will look to make history by winning the Chatham Cup for the first time.
Meanwhile Waitakere City, who outclassed Three Kings United in their semi-final, winning 6-1 at home, will look to lift the trophy for the first time since 1996 when the club famously completed a three-peat of titles.
In the New Zealand Women’s Knockout Cup, Glenfield Rovers are looking to win the title for the third year in succession. Rovers edged past Upper Hutt City 1-0 in their semi-final at home.
They will face Forrest Hill Milford United who earned their place in the final through a convincing 6-0 win over Cashmere Technical away from home. The 2014 finalists, who lost Glenfield Rovers at the last hurdle, will look to win the NZ Women’s Knockout Cup for the first time.
