National Coaches
Since 1964 the New Zealand National team has been coached by no fewer than 14 different coaches, with the most successful era during John Adshead's reign from 1979 to 1982 when New Zealand qualified for the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain for the first time.
Ricki Herbert has led the New Zealand national team from 2005, and now has the opportunity to lead the team at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa after succesfully defeating Bahrain 1-0 at Westpac Stadium in the Oceania/Asia World Cup Playoff. Ricki Herbert will be the first New Zealand coach to have both played and coached at a World Cup.
