AUCKLAND – New Zealand Football and Auckland Football have joined forces with Cuesports Foundation to provide over 2000 free tickets to South Auckland football families to attend the ASB Summer International between the All Whites and Jamaica at Mt Smart Stadium on Wednesday.

The 500 family passes will be distributed by Counties Manukau Sports around schools and clubs involved in Auckland Football or Counties Manukau Sports programmes.

The tickets also come with free train travel to and from the game thanks to Auckland Transport.

Students at Redoubt North School were the first to receive the tickets and Counties Manukau Sport’s Primary Schools Manager Lincoln Jefferson says the kids were thrilled at the news.

“It was just a great sight to see how excited the children were to hold the tickets in their hands and I’m looking forward to getting round more schools in areas like Otara, Papatoetoe, and Manurewa over the next few days,” Jefferson said.

“It’s a great way to thank the schools and parents involved in football programmes this year.”

New Zealand Football Chief Executive Grant McKavanagh says the initiative recognised the diversity of South Auckland and the growing number of children playing the sport.

“Football is already the largest participation sport in New Zealand but there are still areas like South Auckland where we are experiencing new growth through national and federation programmes such as football in schools, Whole of Football initiatives and social development programmes driven by OFC and FIFA.”

“It’s a chance to give kids and their families, some of whom may be new to football, the chance to experience an event they might not have had the opportunity to in the past.”

Auckland Football CEO David Parker said the chance to see international football would help inspire a fresh generation of footballers.

“Auckland Football is introducing the game at a grass roots level to an increasing number of young people in the schools and communities of South Auckland,” Parker said.

“This initiative recognises the difficulties some people face in getting to major events like international games, and we are delighted to be a part of getting 2000 people to Mt Smart on Wednesday to see the All Whites, thanks to the Cuesports Foundation and New Zealand Football.”
