AUCKLAND – Auckland Football’s AFF-East City Futsal have maintained their unbeaten record in the ASB National Futsal League after continuing their domination during series two with another perfect record of five wins from five matches in series two at ASB Stadium in Auckland over the weekend.

Once again lead by Futsal Whites captain and influential pivot Marvin Eakins, AFF-East City defeated Capital Futsal and Central Futsal Hawke’s Bay with powerful 5-2 and 6-0 wins respectively.

The victories set up a feature clash with fellow series one leaders Mainland Futsal and the high calibre match ended with a 2-0 victory to the AFF-East City squad packed with past and present internationals.

The hosts then rounded out their weekend’s work with clinical wins over Central Futsal Manawatu and Futsal South to open up an 11 point lead over their nearest rivals Mainland.

The South Islanders endured a disappointing weekend with a win, draw and two losses but maintained second spot ahead of Manawatu who leapfrogged South into third.

Universally recognised as the underdogs before kick-off, Northern Futsal Massey and Central Futsal Hawke’s Bay recorded their own milestones in winning their first matches in Auckland.

For Northern it was an impressive 2-1 win over Futsal South, while the youthful Hawke’s Bay outfit triumphed 4-1 over Northern on Sunday.  Both sides had earlier recorded draws in the opening matches of series two.

Capital Futsal, who suffered a poor series one, continued their indifferent form closing the gap on fourth place after recording seven points from a possible 12.  Last season’s finalists could have jumped into the playoff spots but for a 2-2 draw with South.

With home court advantage in series three in March, Capital may yet be a dark horse given the talent at their disposal.

In the golden boot race Futsal White Dylan Manickum overtook fellow international Jakub Sinkora after notching an impressive seven goal haul over the weekend.  Manickum’s AFF-East City colleague Bakr Al-Saudi also moved into second place with Sinkora on seven goals.

The ASB National Futsal League concludes in Wellington at the ASB Sports Centre on 17 and 18 March.
