AUCKLAND Ė Football Fern Ali Riley has agreed terms with WPS expansion franchise Western New York Flash for the 2011 season.
Riley has been a free agent since the demise of league champions FC Gold Pride in November.
As well as winning a championship in 2010, Rileyís debut professional season also involved individual recognition in the form of the WPS Rookie of the Year award.
Formerly known as the Buffalo Flash and coached by former All White Aaron Lines, the Flash were invited to join the WPS after winning the second tier W-League competition.
Lines was excited about Riley putting pen to paper.
"Itís an honour to bring a player from my home country to the Flash in our inaugural season in the WPS," Lines said.
"Aliís athleticism, international experience and pace will be a great addition to our team and Iím looking forward to working with her.
Riley is one of four Football Ferns playing professionally around the world. Rebecca Smith plays for VfL Wolfsburg in Germany, Kirsty Yallop for Kristianstad in Sweden and captain Hayley Moorwood is at English club Chelsea.
The Football Ferns will play Japan, England and Mexico at the FIFA Women's World Cup begining in Germany next June and July.
