Biography

A lawyer for the Auckland Regional Council, Kristy Hill made a late run for national team selection, finally making her debut a few days shy of her 29th birthday in an historic win over Argentina in 2008.

A few days later, in her second match, Hill played 42 minutes in goal as New Zealand’s replacement goalkeeper (on at halftime) was sent off. Wearing borrowed and ill-fitting gloves, the resulting penalty was the only goal Hill conceded in her short lived goalkeeping career.

With Ngati Whatua, Te Awara and Nga Puhi tribal affiliations, Hill’s cultural influence of the Football Ferns has been massive, introducing a deeper appreciation of Maori culture and tradition to the Ferns and leading their unique haka on the rare occasions it is performed.
