Football Ferns fullback Anna Green is about to embark on a new challenge after signing for Reading FC, who compete at the top level of the women’s game in England.
The addition of Green is part of a successful recruitment push by the Women’s Super League 1 side, who have also recently secured the services of Dutch international Mandy van den Berg and Northern Ireland representative Rachel Furness.
Green has been capped 61 times by New Zealand and is hugely experienced after playing in two FIFA Women’s World Cups, two U-20 Women’s World Cups and three Olympic Games campaigns.
She joins Reading, who achieved promotion to the top flight in 2015, from Swedish outfit Mallbackens IF and has previously played in England for Notts County, as well as in Australia for Sydney FC and Adelaide United and in Germany at Lokomotive Leipzig.
The 26-year-old is excited to be back in the United Kingdom and believes she is joining a club on the up.
“I’ve only heard good things about Reading and the professional environment here,” she says.
“It’s tough to come up from WSL 2 and to stay up is a massive achievement, so I’m excited to be involved with a club that’s capable of doing this.”

Reading manager Kelly Chambers is pleased to be welcoming Green on board.
“Anna is a great attacking player and a great athlete,” she says.
“She has great attributes that give us a different dimension to our team on the pitch. I can’t wait to introduce her to the team and get working with her.”
